Benedict Arnold

Mr. Redman’s Historians!
By: Isabella Barrett
Hello Maple! As we reach the end of marking period three, (WOW!) Mr. Redman and his classes completed their project on the notorious Benedict Arnold. For any of you American History enthusiasts, you most likely have already heard about this infamous major general. Benedict Arnold was an American Military officer who served during the American Revolutionary War. Right in our hometown, Benedict Arnold contributed to the win for America in the Battles of Saratoga. However, Arnold defected to the British side in 1780. A boot monument was created as an American Revolutionary War memorial in Saratoga National Historical Park, which commemorates Benedict Arnold’s service at the Battles of Saratoga but it does not name him. After reading “The Notorious Benedict Arnold” biography, the students were instructed to create a PowerPoint Presentation discussing two arguments: Benedict’s name SHOULD be on the boot monument. OR- Benedict’s name should NOT be on the boot monument. Evidence to support both sides was required. What do YOU think? Arnold was hailed as one of the Continental Army’s greatest fighting generals, but he later became known as one of the worst traitors in History. I would love to hear everybody’s input. Here is a bright idea: During April break, go visit the Boot Monument in the park! Which, by the way, starts tomorrow! Wahoo! Remember to get outside and take a break from these screens. Keep working hard and moving forward, Maple Ave. Have a super day!
