Award and Much More
!
By: Harrison Ungeheuer
Hello, my name is Harrison Ungeheuer. I am from The Mapletogian. I recently met with Mrs. Mead, recipient of the Health Education Teacher of the Year award. Here are
some questions I presented and her responses.
For the first question I asked how she received the award?
Mrs. Mead was nominated by NYS AHPERD (Association
for Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance). The
Teacher of the Year Award honors individuals for
excellence in teaching and overall performance in middle
school health education. She stated excited and honored
she felt to receive the teacher of the year award.
Next, I asked about where she went to college and how
she became a health teacher at Maple Avenue. Mrs. Mead
went to Penn State and then to Columbia University for
her master's degree in health. She tried three times before

she got into Maple Avenue Middle School. She said, it is
nice because her kids go to Saratoga schools. Mrs. Mead
has worked here for 2 years. She also taught at Shaker,
Bethlehem, and Waterford schools.
As a follow-up, I asked if it took a while to get used to
Maple Avenue? She said it took some time, but it has some
similarities to other schools she worked at before Maple
Avenue. Also, the staff made her feel included because
they are nice and kind.
Finally, we discussed some of her favorite things and what
she would be doing if not teaching. Mrs. Mead said her
favorite animal is a Bernedoodle. It is a cross between a
Bernese Mountain dog and a poodle. Black and white are
here favorite colors. Vegetable masala is her favorite
food. Some of her favorite hobbies include exercise,
cooking, reading, and skiing. She would be a group fitness
instructor if she was not a teacher.
It was a pleasure to meet with Mrs. Mead and talk about
her award and other interesting facts about her.
