Who Decked the Best Door?!

By: Emma Stevens

On this December story, Teachers have decked out their doors for a competition to see who has the best decorated door! Teachers must decorate their doors with a holiday theme to win. The Student Council votes to see who has the best decorated door. Last year, the winning “door” was the gym! They got to hold a trophy that goes with the competition. Mrs. Phillips (An 8th grade language arts teacher) got 2nd place in last year’s competition! She was so close! “It was a hard second place, I was so sad!” Said Mrs. Phillips- but our hallway had so much fun Decking!

Deck the doors has been going on since last year. It was a big hit! The idea became a reality because of covid. Because of covid, the school wanted to celebrate the cheer and festivity of the holidays for kids. The school got inspired by the high school because the high school was doing deck the doors, and Maple Ave thought it was a cool idea to decorate doors for the sight-seeing and fun competitions. But only a teacher decides the theme.

I interviewed Mrs. Cuthbertson and got a bunch of valuable information on the topic.

She says she LOVES Christmas and the holiday season, and the joy it brings and many faces of the students.

I also asked her what her reaction was when she and the coaches won Deck the Doors, and she said that all the coaches were excited and happy, they all got to take a picture, and it was great!

She wanted to do Christmas in the city for the project. They have the tree from Queensberry and the Rockefeller center Christmas tree.

She said that she was excited that everyone was able to enjoy the Christmas decorations and enjoyed the decorating and challenging work they put into this project. She loves the corporation with the other coaches

Her husband, Mr. Cuthbertson, who works at Dorothy Nolan Elementary School, helped build the bus to pay tribute to this project, and a lot of students helped with the idea of the project.

The reason we celebrate the holidays is because it is a holiday where we celebrate the birthday of Jesus. It is a holiday where we get together and open presents and spend time with family. For traditions, people put up a Christmas tree each year, and decorate it with ornaments to hang on the tree. People also hang lights around the tree. Some people celebrate Hannukah instead of Christmas. Hannukah begins on December 18th and ends December 26th. Hannukah is a Jewish holiday. One tradition on Hannukah is to play the game “Dreidel”

I hope you enjoyed this Article and have a great holiday. Merry Christmas😊
