Maple AvenueMardi Gras

"It's a Mardi Gras thing!" In the early weeks of March, Maple Avenue students brought in their beads and bling and celebrated the ever waited Mardi Gras in their French classes. Both Madame Murray and Mlle Decker brought the celebration to life with a variety of music, videos and food to allow students to experience the authentic feel of the streets and the ongoing celebration. Students were all smiles as they made homemade masks, shared entrees, an took some fun selfies!

Mme Murray's 8th grade French classes celebrated Mardi Gras by bringing in some traditional foods like beignets (homemade doughnuts) and la galette des rois (King Cake).  Whoever finds the statue hidden in the cake is King or Queen for the day.  Many people take part in or attend parades and mascarade balls during Carnival season.  Mme Murray's students also enjoyed posing for photos with Mardi Gras beads and masks.
