On November 17th , an assembly was held at Maple Avenue. The presenter, Rich Johns from Act With Respect Always, told us about the importance of having good character, and the importance of the 99 and the 1. It was really cool to hear about the impact that Coach Johns' actions have had on people. I interviewed Coach Johns about his work. His responses are below.
Q: What's your favorite part about visiting schools?
A: "I am so lucky to meet so many amazing students and teachers. Meeting new people who enjoy my message lets me know that what I do is making a positive impact on our community."
Q: What do you hope students will understand more about after you have come to their school?
A: "I hope they understand that no matter if you are a student or a teacher, we all have much more in common than we ever thought. We are all the same in that we have things in our life that we are always addressing. Age makes no difference. Each of us can help others."
Q: How long have you been going to schools?
A: "I have now been visiting schools almost 6 years."
Q: What do you feel is the most important part about Act With Respect Always?
A: "I believe the most important part of the Act With Respect Always is that we can all have a common language to share. Understanding pay it forward, honesty, empathy, kindness and acceptance are key ingredients to AWRA. If each of us measures our 99 every minute of every day the world can be a kinder place. Know that the acceptance of everyone's 1 helps each of us to keep our 99 high."
