Welcome to the first book of the month article of the 2017-2018 school year! If this is your first time reading the book of the month this is a monthly article where the author suggests a book for you to read. This month I picked two books, you can get the first book from the Maple Ave School Library and you can get the second one from the Saratoga Springs Public Library. I hope you read and enjoy Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan and The Secret Sea by Barry Lyga.
Did you finish and like the Percy Jackson and the Olympians or Heroes of Olympus series, or just like fascinating adventure novels? Then Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: Sword of Summer would be the perfect book for you. The main character of the Sword of Summer is Magnus Chase. Magnus Chase has been homeless since his mother's death when he was only fourteen years old. He survives on the streets of Boston by outsmarting the police and truant officers and with the help of his friends, Hearth and Blitz, that may not be what they seem. But after breaking into his Uncle Randolph's house, Magnus Chase receives some life-altering news. He is the son of a Norse God and Norse mythology is fact, not fiction. When Boston is under attack by fire giants, Magnus Chase must make a decision. To save hundreds of innocent lives...or his own. Find out what happens in Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer.

The Secret Sea is a thrilling, detailed and impossible-to-put-down book. In the Secret Sea, Zak believes someone has been watching out for him. Soon Zak discover something life-changing and before they know it Zak and his two friends, Moira and Khalid, are sent to an alternate universe. The universe is similar to their own at first glance, but soon they discover that it is very different. The alternate universe is filled with incredibly advanced technology and even magic. But not everything in the alternate universe is awe-inspiring. Despite slavery ending in this alternate universe way before it did on Earth, Moira faces cruel discrimination. Zak learns that in this world there might be a way to make things right and is prepared to do anything to fix history for the better, or for the worse. And Khalid is ready to help his friends tackle any challenges the new world presents. Will Zak, Moira and Khalid be resourceful enough to make it back home? The Secret Sea is the perfect combination of adventure, horror and sci-fi.
